Volunteer Spotlight: Penny Legg
Published in Wags & Whiskers: Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter (Friends of BCAS) 2016 Spring Newsletter
For this spotlight, I was asked to combine a tribute and personality profile piece together. In addition to interviewing Penny, I decided to interview fellow volunteers to get a complete picture of how much of an impact Penny has had on the Friends of BCAS. I enjoyed the challenge of collecting all the information and weaving it together to tell the story of a dedicated woman and her passion to make a difference for shelter animals.
Volunteer Spotlight: Dee Lescure
Published in Wags & Whiskers: Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter (FOBCAS) 2016 Winter Newsletter
Dee's piece was such a fun piece to write. I wanted to focus on her duties with the organization as well as her outside hobbies.
Volunteer Spotlight: Ryan Morgan
Published in Wags & Whiskers: Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter (FOBCAS) 2015 Summer Newsletter
Ryan is one of the lead handlers for dog playgroups at the shelter. I was asked to come up with a personality piece to not only showcase him, but give attention to the playgroup program.
Volunteer Spotlight: Jenn Kates

Jenn's spotlight piece showcases how she has used volunteering at FOBCAS to overcome person challenges she faced. This piece was featured in their 2015 spring newsletter.

Below are some of the feature stories that I wrote during my COM 316 feature writing class. You can view the each story by clicking on the title of the assignment. Please note that some of the larger files may take a minute or two to open.
A-Day-in-the-Life-of Story
Back Yard Antics is a day-in-the-life-of story. This feature story uses description to submerse the reader into the everyday beauty that people so often overlook in their busy lives.
Personality Profile Story
For this assignment, I chose to interview Jennifer Ditmars. Each of us is the main character in our life stories, but this woman could literally have a book written about her. It was such a pleasure to interview her and have the honor of putting her stories down on paper.
Problem/Solution Story
In this problem/solution story I used Facebook to reach out to people around the world to find sources for a story on phobias. These sources provided me with antidotes and a wealth of information to use when picking what phobias I would touch upon. I had wonderful experiences interviewing several professionals to come up with different ways to address phobias.
